Choose between actual camping locations

Pilanesberg camping should identify the resort and the pitch rather than just the park name. Bakgatla and Manyane have camping and caravan offerings, but they have different locations and booking details. Match the reservation to the gate approach you will use.

The landscape image illustrates safari scenery, rather than a particular camping pitch. For other accommodation types, use the location comparison. If adding a safari, confirm its actual departure point against your camping base.

Bakgatla: choose the pitch category

The operator lists camping and caravan sites with and without electricity, plus shared washing and sanitary facilities. Choose the category that matches your equipment and ask about the current arrangements for that pitch. A general facility listing does not confirm every connection or service on your date.

Keep a pitch quotation separate from the park's visitor and vehicle charges. An undated “from” amount on a resort page is not a complete dated camping price. Confirm party size, vehicle and the actual services rather than building the budget around a headline.

Manyane: confirm the practical arrangements

A September 2024 management notice described fire damage to reception, administration and communal areas, while camping and caravan facilities continued at that time. Treat that as a dated event, not a reason to assume either current full closure or full restoration.

Manyane remains advertised with booking access. Before reserving, obtain the current arrival instructions and the facilities attached to the selected stay. In particular, keep check-in and self-catering arrangements explicit instead of inferring them from an older photograph or general resort description.

Questions for the campsite booking

1. Which named resort and pitch category are you reserving?
2. How many people and which vehicle combination does the quote cover?
3. Is electricity part of the selected category, and what current arrangements should you prepare for?
4. Which shared facilities are available for your stay?
5. Where do you check in, and what arrival time is required?
6. Which park access charges are additional?

If you change the party or bring a caravan, keep the accommodation and vehicle information consistent. Do not assume that every pitch has the same occupancy, power or additional-vehicle conditions.

Plan the park visit separately from the overnight stay

A campsite reservation is not permission for independent night driving. Confirm the camp approach and any arrival arrangement after ordinary gate hours before booking around a late journey. A morning departure or a guided activity also needs to fit the applicable access instructions.

For a self-drive safari, identify the permitted route from the camp and the return requirements. For a booked guided trip, establish whether you reach its meeting point yourself or receive an expressly included collection. A local camping address is not automatically included in a distant hotel-pickup product.

Use the gate information and your actual confirmation together. Supplies, sanitation, charging and arrival should follow the reservation you have, not the conditions at a different campsite.

For a longer itinerary, keep the campsite nights and each safari day separately recorded. That makes it easier to see which admission, transport and accommodation services are already included and which still need arranging. A park name appearing on several reservations does not make them one combined booking.

Distinguish an organised tented safari

A three-day camping programme contains two nights at Tlou Tented Safari Camp, a guide, game drives, named meals and transfer from a Johannesburg hotel or guesthouse or O. R. Tambo airport. Conservation fees remain additional on that product. This is a guided overnight package, not a self-drive pitch reservation at Manyane or Bakgatla. Compare the accommodation and actual drives rather than assuming the word camping means you bring all your own equipment.
